Dear Parents,

The first week of school has been exciting and everything is going wonderfully.  Welcome to the first copy of my weekly ‘News and Gentle Reminders.’  It is my hope that you find this information very helpful in planning for your child’s upcoming week.  Please review this weekly article and all the items in the weekly blue folder and return the empty folder to school in a very timely manner.

Please mark on your calendar the Meet Your Teacher Night on Tuesday, September 6th.  I look forward to seeing you at this very informative evening and hope that you can attend.  It will be a special evening for all.

I would like to warmly welcome the following new students in grades 1 – 8 at Saint Bernard this year:

Damian Szuch                         (1st grade);      Brendan Yager                        (2nd grade)

Bella Pistella                           (6th grade);      Brandon Myers                        (7th grade)

I know our school family will make them and their families feel welcomed this year.

Thank you and God bless,

Mr. Wagner

Please Note:

All-School Liturgy

This year students in grades one to eight will be attending all-school Masses every Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. in the church.  Kindergarten will join us in January.  All parents and family are welcome to join us for Mass on Thursdays.

Early Care Program

The Early Care Program is available for those needing a safe environment from 7:00-8:00a.m. daily.  Information was sent home in last week’s blue envelope regarding registering for this service.  If you need this packet, please contact the school office.

Extended Day Program

We are very excited about continuing our Saint Bernard Extended Day Program from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. daily.  An Extended Day Packet containing all information and a calendar was mailed home in August.  If your child(ren) are going to participate and you have not returned the needed forms, please do so immediately.  Children can not stay until all information/forms are on file.  If you did not receive the mailing and need copies, please contact the school office.

Safe Environment Policy – (Diocesan Database) –   (What school volunteers need to know and do!)

In order to be in compliance, you will need to complete the following:

  1. Apply on the Diocese Database Program on the Diocesan web page www.diopitt.org
  2. Obtain State Criminal Clearance – Act 34 (This will be done for you after you complete the Diocese Database!  You do not need to send for this as in the past but you do need to complete #1 and the school will obtain a copy of this clearance for you.)
  3. Obtain Child Abuse Clearance – Act 151 (After you apply on the database, a copy of your state clearance -#2 and application for your child abuse clearance - #3 will be sent home for you to complete.  You will need to complete the child abuse clearance form, mail it and then supply the school with a copy of the child abuse clearance, after you receive your criminal clearance from the school.  You may also elect to have the Child Abuse clearance form mailed directly to the school by completing the attached form sent home in #2.  Once the school receives the Child Abuse clearance form a copy can be supplied to you for your files.
  4. Attend – ‘Protecting God’s Children’ workshop (Check school website, church bulletin, Religious Education or www.virtus.org for workshop dates)

5         Read and Sign – ‘Code of Pastoral Conduct’ booklet (Available in the school office and at Protecting God’s Children Workshops)

Any parent that has completed the diocesan database within the last month should email schooldata@stbpgh.org  saying that you have done so.  This will alert us to print a copy of the state criminal clearance and get the child abuse clearance request to you to complete.
